InflateAlite FAQs

I don't have a lot of experience with studio photography. Where do I start?

We are happy to provide recommendations, help you plan your space, assist with the installation, and provide instructions on how to use the product effectively.

Do these come with a light source? What kind of lights should I use?

They do not include a light source. Since different applications require different lighting setups, we are happy to provide specific recommendations based on your particular needs.

How long does it take to receive my InflateAlite product?

We typically have all products in stock. Orders generally ship within one business day via FedEx Ground.

How does InflateAlite differ from traditional overhead lightbanks?

InflateAlite replaces heavy tubing with high-pressure inflatable frames. This makes our lightbanks significantly lighter, safer to rig, and much faster to assemble(minutes vs. hours).

What sizes are available?

Currently, we offer industry-standard footprints including:

Can I use my existing photography accessories with InflateAlite?

Yes! We designed our systems to be compatible with standard grip equipment. Some diffusions, grids, and silks designed for standard butterfly frames will fit our inflatable frames, provided the dimensions match.

How do I "assemble" an inflatable lightbank?

InflateAlite requires little assembly. Simply layout the fabric, connect our Li Battery Air Pump, and watch the frame take shape in under 3 minutes. Secure the diffusion with the integrated heavy-duty Velcro.

What kind of lights can I mount inside?

We recommend lightweight LED mats or "bare-bulb" fixtures. Ensure your fixtures are properly secured to the internal mounting points.

Note: Avoid high-heat tungsten lamps that exceed the fabric’s temperature rating.

How do I rig the InflateAlite overhead?

Our frames feature reinforced D-Rings and handles at multiple attachment points. They can be supported by four stands or suspended from a grid. Because they are lighter, they put significantly less strain on your rigging than traditional metal frames.

How do I clean the Drop Stitch and sidewall?

Clean drop-stitch material by rinsing off sand, dirt, dust, and debris, then cleaning with a mild soap (like dish soap) and water using a soft brush or cloth. For tougher stains, use OxiClean, or a specialized inflatable cleaner/UV protectant, ensuring the material is fully dry before storing to prevent mildew.

  • Initial Rinse: Use fresh water to hose down the product and remove dirt, salt, and sand.
  • Gentle Scrub: Mix water with a mild, non-abrasive detergent or specialized inflatable cleaner. Use a soft-bristle brush, cloth, or sponge to gently scrub the surfaces.
  • Remove Tough Stains: OxiClean or a soft scrub brush can be used on stubborn grime, but avoid harsh chemicals.
  • Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse all soap residue off completely with fresh water.
  • Dry Completely: Allow the product to air dry completely in the shade before storage to prevent mold and mildew.
  • Protect: Apply a UV protectant specifically for PVC/inflatable materials to prevent sun damage.

How do I clean the scrim and bounce?

Hand-washing in warm water with gentle soap, such as Napisan or similar fabric cleaners, avoiding bleach to prevent yellowing or damage. Soak for several hours, scrub gently, rinse thoroughly in cold water, and air dry to restore white fabric.

  • Initial Prep: Remove dust using a soft-bristled brush or by shaking the fabric out.
  • Soaking: Soak the scrim in a bucket of warm water mixed with a gentle fabric cleaner or whitening agent like Napisan or Dr. Beckmann Glowhite.
  • Cleaning: Gently agitate and scrub the fabric, focusing on stained areas. Avoid using bleach as it can cause yellowing and material damage.
  • Rinsing: Rinse the scrim thoroughly with cold water to remove all detergent residue.
  • Drying: Hang to dry completely. For faster, safe drying, you can hang it outdoors.
  • Stubborn Stains: For persistent, non-soluble stains, use a stiff brush or a soft, dull knife to gently remove material.

The Li-Battery Pump isn’t turning on.

Check the charge level. We recommend "topping off" the battery after every shoot. If storing for long periods, charge the battery to ~50% every 3 months to maintain cell health.

The frame feels "soft" or is sagging. What’s wrong?

  1. Check Pressure: Ensure the valves are tightened fully. Temperature drops (e.g., moving from a hot truck to a cold studio) can cause air to contract.
  2. Valve Seal: Check for grit or hair in the valve seal.
  3. Weight Limit: Ensure the internal lighting fixtures do not exceed the recommended payload for that specific frame size.
